About Date Powder.
Date powder, also called khajur powder or date sugar, is exactly what it sounds like: dried dates, ground into a soft, light-brown powder. There is no added sugar, no anti-caking agent and nothing else. The taste is rich and caramel-like, with the warmth of a fresh date.
Because it is the whole fruit, date powder doesn't dissolve completely the way sugar does. It behaves more like a fine flour that sweetens, which makes it perfect for some recipes and less suited to others.
Where date powder works best
- Warm milk and haldi doodh: stir in a spoon; the fine bits settle, so stir again before drinking.
- Laddoos and energy balls: with nuts, seeds and ghee, it sweetens and binds.
- Smoothies and milkshakes: blends right in with banana, oats or cocoa.
- Porridge, dalia and oats: sprinkle over at the end.
- Baking: cookies, muffins, banana bread and brownies. Replace up to half the sugar with date powder for a softer, fudgier texture.
- Babies' and kids' food: a pinch to sweeten home-made porridge for children above one year, if your paediatrician agrees.
Where it doesn't work well
In clear drinks such as tea or nimbu pani, date powder leaves a fine sediment. For those, use our Monk Fruit Sweetener instead.
Storage
Date powder is naturally sticky and can clump. Keep the pack tightly sealed and use a dry spoon. In humid months, store it in an airtight jar.
Best before: 12 months from the date of packing.
How to use it
Use in milk, smoothies, porridge, laddoos and baking in place of sugar.

Questions
What is date powder made of?
Only dried dates, ground into a powder. Nothing else is added.
Can date powder replace sugar?
In many recipes, yes: milk, smoothies, laddoos and baking. It doesn't dissolve like sugar, so it isn't ideal for clear drinks such as tea.
Does date powder dissolve in milk?
Mostly. The fine fruit fibre stays in the milk and can settle, so stir before drinking.
Can I give date powder to my child?
Many parents use a pinch in home-made food for children above one year. Please check with your paediatrician first.
Why does date powder clump?
Dates are naturally sticky and the powder takes in moisture from the air. Keep it sealed, use a dry spoon, and break up lumps with your fingers.
How much date powder equals one spoon of sugar?
Date powder is a little less sweet than sugar, so most people use about one and a half spoons in place of one spoon of sugar.
How should I store it?
Keep the pack sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and always use a dry spoon.
Who packs it?
