About Sea Buckthorn Powder.
Sea buckthorn is a small, bright-orange berry that grows on thorny shrubs in the cold, high deserts of the Himalayas, in places like Ladakh and Spiti. In parts of Himachal it is called *chharma*. The berries are sour and citrusy, much closer to passion fruit or orange peel than to anything sweet.
Our sea buckthorn powder is simply those berries, dried whole and ground fine. There is no sugar, no filler, no maltodextrin and no added colour: the deep orange is the berry itself.
How people use sea buckthorn powder
- In water: half a teaspoon in a glass of water, with honey or a pinch of salt if you like.
- In smoothies: it adds a sharp, fruity note to mango, banana or berry smoothies.
- On breakfast: stir into yoghurt, curd, overnight oats or muesli.
- In cooking: a little works like amchur or lemon in chutneys, raitas and salad dressings.
Start with half a teaspoon a day and adjust to taste. Because it is tart, most people mix it with something that has a little sweetness.
What makes this powder different
Some sea buckthorn powders are extracts on a carrier. Ours is the whole dried berry: skin, pulp and seed, ground together. That is why it tastes so intensely of the fruit and why the colour is a strong orange rather than a pale yellow.
Storage
Keep the pack sealed and away from heat and sunlight. Use a dry spoon. The powder can clump in humid weather; that is moisture, not spoilage, and it breaks up easily.
Best before: 12 months from the date of packing. Packed in Surat by Kabisa Organics.
How to use it
Mix 1 teaspoon into water, juice, smoothies or yoghurt once a day.

Questions
What does sea buckthorn powder taste like?
Sour and fruity, a little like passion fruit or orange peel, with a slightly bitter finish. Most people mix it into something with some sweetness, such as a smoothie, juice, honey water or yoghurt.
How much sea buckthorn powder should I take in a day?
Most people use half to one teaspoon a day. Start with half a teaspoon and see how you like the taste.
Is this sea buckthorn powder or an extract?
It is the whole berry, dried and ground. The only ingredient is sea buckthorn berries. It is not an extract and has no carrier added.
Can I mix it in hot water or tea?
Yes, though the taste is brightest in cool or warm water. Let tea cool a little before stirring it in.
Why has my powder formed lumps?
The berries are naturally oily and the powder takes in moisture from the air. Lumps break up with a dry spoon. Keep the pack sealed after use.
Can children or pregnant women have it?
Sea buckthorn is a food, but if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, giving it to a young child, or taking medicines, please ask your doctor first.
What is the difference between this and sea buckthorn juice?
The powder is the whole dried berry, good for smoothies and food. The juice is a liquid concentrate you dilute in water. Both are made from sea buckthorn berries.
How should I store it?
Keep the pack sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and always use a dry spoon.
Who packs it?
