About Moringa Powder.
Moringa is the drumstick tree, known as sahjan in Hindi, saragvo in Gujarati and murungai in Tamil. Most Indian kitchens know its long green pods from sambar. Its small, round leaves have been cooked as a green vegetable for generations, especially in South India.
Our moringa powder is made from moringa leaves that are shade-dried, which keeps their green colour, then ground fine. Nothing is added: no fillers, no colour, no salt.
What does moringa powder taste like?
Green and earthy, like spinach with a slightly peppery, grassy finish. On its own in water it is strong, so most people cook with it or blend it into something.
8 easy ways to use moringa powder
- Dal and sambar: stir in a teaspoon at the end of cooking.
- Roti, paratha and thepla dough: knead in one to two teaspoons for every two cups of atta.
- Chutney: add a teaspoon to coriander-mint chutney.
- Chaas: blend with buttermilk, roasted jeera and salt.
- Smoothies: banana, pineapple or mango hide the earthy taste well.
- Idli and dosa batter: mix in for green idlis.
- Soups: whisk into tomato or vegetable soup just before serving.
- Warm water: half a teaspoon with lemon and a pinch of salt.
Start with half a teaspoon a day and build up to one teaspoon. Add it towards the end of cooking rather than frying it hard, so the colour stays bright.
Powder or tablets?
The powder is the most flexible: it goes into everyday food. If you would rather not taste it at all, try our Moringa Tablets.
Storage
