About Shatavari Root Powder.
Shatavari (*Asparagus racemosus*) is a climbing plant from the asparagus family, with clusters of thick, finger-like roots. Its name is often explained as "one with a hundred roots". It grows wild across India and has been part of women's routines in many Indian households for generations.
Our shatavari powder is 100% shatavari root, dried and ground. Nothing is added.
How shatavari powder is traditionally taken
- With milk: whisk half to one teaspoon into a cup of warm milk, add a pinch of cardamom and sweeten with jaggery or date powder.
- With water: stir into warm water with a little honey.
- In smoothies: blend with banana, dates and milk.
Most people take it once a day. Start with half a teaspoon.
What does shatavari taste like?
Mild, slightly sweet and a little starchy, much gentler than ashwagandha. Many people find it easy to take in milk without any sweetener.
Shatavari and ashwagandha
The two roots are often mentioned together and sometimes taken together. Shatavari is mild and sweet; ashwagandha is earthy and bitter. If you take both, use a smaller amount of each.
A word of care
Shatavari is a traditional ingredient, not a medicine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a hormone-related condition, or take any medicines, please speak to your doctor first.
Best before: 12 months from the date of packing.
How to use it
